Manti Duals

The Buckaroos traveled to Manti this past weekend. With many wrestlers still out and recovering from injuries the Buckaroos had a few holes. Here is a break down of the wrestlers that participated in the Duals.
103- Hunter Bowring goes 7-1 places 2nd
112 Dailyn Warren goes 4-2 places 3rd
119 Brian Robinson goes 6-3 places 4th
125 Curtis Baird goes 0-9
135- Coltan Musselman goes 9-0 places 1st
140 Kellan Brewer goes 0-8
145 Mo Beh goes 1-8
152 Tim Ryan goes 4-5
160 Trevor Wagstaff goes 5-3 places 4th
Other Wrestlers that participated in the Tourney from the Buckaroos are Austin Clark who went 1-3, Roque DeAnda 3-1, Joe Engle 1-3, Eric Anderson 3-2, and Jake Giles 1-2.

Buckaroos -vs- San Juan Broncos

The Buckaroos were a little short handed going into the rivalry dual due to injuries. The young Buckaroos wrestled hard and showed some improvement but were bested by the Broncos.
140- Kelland Brewer -vs- Jade Grover- Kelland gave it his best but was taken down and Grover scored the Fall in the first.
145- San Juan received a forfeit
152- Tim Ryan -vs- Chaze Palmer- San Juan’s Palmer came out strong in the first period earning the take down and two near fall. Ryan was able to reverse out but before the period ended Palmer got a reversal of his own. Ryan choose bottom in the second and was able to score a reversal and three near fall. In the third Palmer chose bottom and Ryan capitalized on it turning Palmer for the Buckaroo fall.
160- Eric Anderson -vs- Jens Grover- The Freshman Anderson faced a tough task taking on Grover. Grover earned the first take down and was able to get Anderson on his back. Anderson fought hard and was able to hold off the fall giving up three near fall. In the second Grover chose bottom and was able to score a reversal and the fall before the period ended. Anderson looked good and is improving week to week.
171- Jake Giles -vs- Nathan Webb- Giles looked good starting off and came out aggressive but was caught early and wasn’t able to get away. Webb was able to secure the fall.
189- Nephi Barlow -vs- Trey Mcdonald- Mcdonald came out strong in the first scoring a take down and three near fall before Barlow was able to escape. Mcdonald then took Barlow down again and earned three near fall before the period ended. In the second Barlow choose top. Mcdonald was able to earn the reversal but not for long as Barlow scored a reversal of his own. Mcdonald fought hard and again got a reversal. Barlow then earned and escape and a take down before the period ended. In the third Mcdonald chose top and was unable to keep Barlow down. Barlow earning an escape then a take down and two quick near fall to close the scoring gap. The match was stopped due to Mcdonald being injured going to the mat. Mcdonald was unable to continue and Barlow won by Injury Default.
215- San Juan won by Forfeit
HWT- San Juan won by Forfeit
103- Bowring Monticello won by Forfeit
112- Dailyn Warren- vs- Dallin Jacobsen- Warren came out hard and looked good in the first earning a take down. Jacobsen was able to reverse Warren but Warren was able to come back and earn his own reversal and three near fall. In the second Jacobsen chose bottom and earned an escape, takedown and earned the fall in the second. The freshman Warren showed some improvements and promise in the match and will surely get better as the season moves on.
119- Brian Robinson -vs- Russell Musselman- Robinson came out the gate quick taking down Musselman and earning two near fall before readjusting and earning the fall in the first.
125- Roque DeAnda -vs- Jayson McDaniel- The young DeAnda wrestled hard moving up from his usual 112 spot. DeAnda showed allot of good things and like the other freshman on the team is improving as well week to week. DeAnda was able to go till late in the second before surrendering the fall.
130- Curtis Baird -vs- Jayden Squires- The young Baird was able to fight hard and come off his back in the first but was unable to hold of Squires in the second and Squires earned the fall.
135- Coltan Musselman -vs.- Ty Hosler- In the match of the night Musselman was able to strike first and fast earning a quick take down and putting Hosler on his back earning three near fall. In the second Hosler chose bottom and was able to get the reversal for the only points scored in the second. In the third Musselman chose bottom and was able to earn an escape and take down but gave up a point on a illegal hold. The match ended with Musselman on top 8-3.
The Buckaroo squad is improving with a lot of youth on the team. The wrestlers travel to the Manti Tournament this weekend and are then off for the Christmas break. The Buckaroos have a lot to look forward to after Christmas as most starters will be healed and back in action after the break. The Buckaroo fans are excited to see incoming freshman Austin Wilcox who has been out all year with a injury due to the football season.
The Buckaroos come away from Blanding with a tough loss 48-33. Match info to follow.

Dove Creek Tournament

The Buckaroos stayed close to home this weekend traveling to the Dove Creek, Colorado 2010 Dawg Fight. The Buckaroos a little short handed and stacked up at a couple weights did pretty well at the Dawg Fight coming home with a second place finish. First place was won by the sponsoring Dove Creek Bulldogs with 117 team points. The Buckaroos weren't far behind in second with 116 team points. Here are the results for the individual Buckaroo Wrestlers.

103- Hunter Bowring- Bowring goes 5-0 winning three by fall. Bowring takes 1st place
112- Austin Clark- Clark went 1-3. Clark placed 4th.
119- Brian Robinson- Robinson goes 4-0 winning all his matches by fall. Robinson places 1st
119- Dailyn Warren- Warren goes 2-3 after wrestling up a weight. Warren placed 6th.
119- Roque DeAnda- DeAnda goes 4-1 losing in the finals to teammate Robinson. DeAnda takes 2nd place.
125- Joe Engel- Engel goes 0-3.
125- Curtis Baird- Baird goes 1-3 placing 6th.
135- Coltan Musselman- Musselman goes 4-1 losing in the finals by 7-6. Musselman places 2nd.
140- Kelland Brewer- Brewer goes 0-4.
152- Tim Ryan- Ryan goes 4-1 earning 3rd place.
160- Eric Anderson- Anderson goes 1-3 placing 6th.
189- Nephi Barlow- Barlow goes 3-1 placing 3rd.

Buckaroos -vs- Grand County Red Devils

The Buckaroo Wrestlers took on the Red Devils in the first home dual of the season. The night started off with the JV matches. At 160 Eric Anderson made quick work of his opponent Elijah Sheets Taking him down in the first period and getting the Fall in :36 seconds. Next up was the JV 215. Jerod Hanson faced off against Edgar Gomez in a back and forth first period which ended with the score Hanson 5 Gomez 2. In the second Gomez took down and came away with a quick reversal to which Hansen countered with an escape a quick take down and three near fall. At the end of the second it was Hanson 11 Gomez 4. The third period saw Hanson take neutral. Gomez got the take down and three near fall but couldn't secure the pin. The match ended Hanson 11 Gomez 9

In the Varsity. Monticello (M) Grand (G)

171- Jake Giles(M) -vs- Mike Ingleby(G) Ingleby wasted no time taking down Giles and securing the fall in the first period
189- Nephi Barlow(M) -vs- Homer Manson(G) Manson came out strong against Barlow taking him down and rolling him to his back to get five quick points. Barlow recovered with a reversal and two near fall of his own ending the first period Manson 5 Barlow 4. In the second Manson came after Barlow again taking him down and rolling him to his back. This time Manson secured the fall.
215- John Mayne(M) -vs- Kevin Ballard(G) Ballard took down Mayne and was able to roll him to his back. Mayne fought hard but ended up surrendering the fall.
HWT- Forfeit(M) -vs- Beto Nelson(G)
103- Hunter Bowring(M) -vs- Forfeit/ Justin Beason(G) In a exhibition match Bowring wrestled a heavier Beason but made quick work of him taking him down and securing the fall in the first period.
112- Dailyn Warren(M) -vs- Forfeit/ Tyson McDougall(G) In another exhibition match Warren Controlled McDougall through out the match winning 11-4
119- Brian Robinson(M) -vs- Ice Kesavadhana(G) In the tightest most thrilling match of the night Robinson and Ice were neck and neck. Robinson controlled the first period taking down Ice and putting him on his back. The first ended with Robinson up 5-0. Ice took control in the second returning the points by taking Robinson down and putting him on his back. The second period ended tied 5-5. Ice choose bottom and neither wrestler was able to score points in the third sending the match into sudden death. With seconds left on the clock Robinson shot in for the take down as he was working to secure the take down Ice fled out of bounds to avoid the score but was hit with Fleeing a Technical violation. Robinson was awarded one point and the match was over with Robinson winning in overtime 6-5.
125- Roque DeAnda(M) -vs- Dexter Sheets(G) DeAnda and Sheets were back and forth in the first with the period ending Sheets 6 DeAnda 4. DeAnda was on fire in the second scoring 7 unanswered points and going up 11-6 at the end of the second. To start the third Sheets choose neutral and was able to take down DeAnda and secure the fall.
130- Curtis Baird(M) -vs- Jacob Francis(G) Francis took down Baird in the first period and came away with the fall.
135- Joe Engle(M) -vs- Forfeit
140- Coltan Musselman(M) -vs- Trenton White (G) Musselman had his way with White in the first scoring 7-1. In the second Musselman made a quick shot turned over white and pinned him.
145- Kelland Brewer(M) -vs- Forfeit
152- Tim Ryan(M) -vs- James Martin(G) The first period ended with Ryan earning a take down and leading 2-0. In the second Ryan choose neutral and took down Martin putting him on his back for a quick three near fall. Martin was able to come off his back and earn a reversal before the period ended. Ryan lead 7-2. Martin choose top and was reversed by Ryan. Martin was able to reverse Ryan but Ryan was able to score an escape. Martin also gave up two penalty points for locking hand in the third. Ryan won 12-4
160- Trevor Wagstaff(M) -vs- Lacie Walker(G) The team race came down to the last match of the night with Monticello leading 37-36. Wagstaff came out aggressive and took down Walker but was unable to hold him and Walker scored the reversal. Not to be outdone Wagstaff scored a reversal of his own and secured two near fall. The first period ended Wagstaff 6-2. In the Second Wagstaff choose bottom and was turned before the period ended allowing Walker to score three near fall. Wagstaff lead at the end of the second 6-5. In the third Walker choose bottom but was put on his back by wagstaff for two near fall before he was able to fight his way for a reversal. With the score 8-7 for Wagstaff and with just over a minute left it looked like the Buckaroos would come out on top. Walker was able to roll over Wagstaff and secure the fall giving the Red Devils the win 42-37.
The Young Buckaroo squad looked good for the most part in the first home dual. The Buckaroos will have to learn quick having eight freshman on the team if they wish to compete for a title.
